TradingView began as a charting and social analysis platform and became a trading terminal by adding broker integrations. A trader connects a live brokerage account inside the chart interface and sends orders from the same window they analyse in, rather than reading a chart in one application and executing in another.
What the broker connection adds
Without a connected broker, TradingView is analysis only: charts, indicators, alerts, paper trading. With one, the panel at the bottom of the chart becomes an order ticket and a position manager. Orders placed there are real orders at your broker, priced by your broker's feed rather than by TradingView's data, and subject to your broker's margin and execution rules. The chart may show one price while the executable price differs — a distinction that matters most on illiquid instruments.
Charting and scripting
The reason traders want the integration is the charting itself. Drawing tools, multi-chart layouts, replay, and a very large public library of community indicators are ahead of what MetaTrader offers natively. Pine Script, TradingView's own language, is easier to learn than MQL and runs server-side for alerts — but it does not execute trades autonomously. Automation requires the broker's own tooling or a third-party bridge, and anyone moving from MetaTrader expecting Expert Advisor equivalence will not find it here.
Cost
The free tier limits indicators per chart, saved layouts, and alerts, and shows advertising. Paid tiers raise those limits and add second-based intervals and multiple charts per tab. Real-time exchange data for equities and futures is a separate subscription paid to the exchange; forex and CFD prices come from the connected broker and carry no extra charge.
Which brokers offer it
Integration is a commercial arrangement, not something a broker can enable unilaterally, so the list is shorter than the list of brokers whose clients would like it. Support also varies by entity within a group. ProForexBrokers.com verifies the integration on the broker's own platform page rather than relying on a TradingView badge in marketing material, because the badge sometimes refers to charts embedded on the broker's website rather than to live order routing.
