Sberbank Online

Updated:

A legacy Russian bank-transfer method — no longer a working route to foreign broker accounts.

Brokers supporting Sberbank Online

Sberbank Online is the online and mobile banking service of Russia's largest bank. It appeared in the cashiers of brokers with Russian client bases as a direct bank-transfer option, avoiding cards and their cross-border fees.

Current status

Sberbank has been subject to international sanctions since 2022 and has been disconnected from SWIFT. Cards it issues do not function outside Russia, and its dollar and euro correspondent banking has been cut. Payments from it to a foreign broker's account do not complete. Brokers have either removed the method or repurposed the label for domestic ruble transfer schemes that settle inside Russia — which is a different arrangement, with a different counterparty, whatever the cashier calls it.

Treat any broker page still advertising Sberbank Online as unmaintained content. Check what the live cashier of your own account offers.

If funds are involved

Under the same-method rule a broker returns money the way it came in. With the corridor closed, that becomes a manual process handled by the broker's finance team, and what it can offer depends entirely on its own banking relationships. Open a written support case rather than waiting for an option to reappear in the interface, and keep the deposit records — the broker will ask for them.

What this illustrates

The lesson generalises well beyond one bank. A funding route is a chain of banking relationships that the trader does not see and cannot influence, and it can close between the deposit and the withdrawal. Two consequences follow. Verify a second withdrawal method while everything still works, because verification during a disruption is slow and sometimes impossible. And weigh a broker's payment options by how many independent corridors they represent, not by how many logos appear on the page — five methods routed through one banking partner are one method.
