CIMA

Cập nhật:

CIMA regulates securities businesses in the Cayman Islands, a jurisdiction better known for funds than for retail forex. The brokers below hold a CIMA registration.

Brokers regulated by CIMA

The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) supervises banking, insurance, funds and securities business in the Cayman Islands. Retail forex brokers appear here far less often than hedge funds do, and when they do the relevant permission is registration or licensing under the Securities Investment Business Act, usually as a person carrying on securities investment business such as dealing as principal or arranging deals.

What the registration requires

Cayman rebuilt this regime in 2020, replacing the old "excluded persons" self-declaration with a registered-person category that CIMA actively supervises. Registered persons must satisfy fit-and-proper tests on directors and senior officers, appoint at least two directors, notify CIMA of changes, and comply with anti-money-laundering obligations including a local MLRO. Full licensees face capital requirements and audited reporting on top of that.

The 2020 reform mattered because the previous framework let firms operate with minimal oversight while quoting Cayman as their regulator. Any broker citing a Cayman "exemption" rather than a current registration is describing a status that no longer exists.

Leverage and retail protections

CIMA sets no retail leverage cap and imposes no client classification regime comparable to MiFID. There is no requirement for negative balance protection, no standardised risk warning, and no product intervention power directed at retail CFDs. Segregation of client money is expected under conduct rules but is not backed by the detailed client-assets rulebook a UK or EU firm must follow.

If a broker fails

There is no investor compensation scheme. Cayman does, however, have a well-developed insolvency practice and a Financial Services Division of the Grand Court with genuine expertise, which makes it a more navigable jurisdiction for a large claim than most offshore centres — though the cost of using it puts it out of reach for a retail balance.

Verifying a registration

CIMA publishes searchable lists of licensed and registered entities by category. Confirm the exact legal entity, the category, and that the status is current rather than surrendered. Because Cayman is far more commonly a fund domicile than a broker domicile, a retail forex brand advertising CIMA supervision deserves an extra check that the registered entity is the one you are actually contracting with — ProForexBrokers.com reads the client agreement rather than the marketing page whenever a group runs several entities.

Who a CIMA broker suits

Cayman suits institutional and professional counterparties, funds and high-net-worth structures. For a retail forex trader it offers no leverage advantage over other offshore options and no compensation backstop, so the licence is rarely the reason to choose a broker.
