Brokers With Web-Based Trading Platforms
Brokers here offer a browser-based terminal alongside or instead of a desktop client. A web platform removes installation entirely and works from any machine, at the cost of some capability a desktop client keeps.

Why a browser terminal matters more than it sounds
The obvious benefit is that nothing is installed. That matters on a work machine where you cannot install software, on a borrowed computer, on an operating system the desktop client does not support, and on a tablet. It also means the platform is always current: there is no version to update and no mismatch between the client on your laptop and the one on your desktop.
The less obvious benefit is state. A web terminal keeps your layout, watchlists and open charts on the broker's servers, so the workspace follows you between machines. A desktop client keeps them locally, which is why moving computers has historically meant rebuilding a setup.
Where web platforms are genuinely weaker
- Automation. Expert advisors and scripts run in the desktop client. A browser terminal generally cannot host them, so a trader running automation needs the desktop platform regardless of how good the web version is.
- Charting depth. Web terminals have closed most of the gap, but custom indicators, multi-chart templates and some drawing tools remain desktop features at several brokers.
- Connection sensitivity. A browser tab that loses connectivity behaves less gracefully than a desktop client, and a tab closed by accident is a different kind of interruption than an application left running.
- Session limits. Some web terminals log out on inactivity more aggressively than a desktop client, which matters for positions being monitored rather than actively traded.
None of these is decisive on its own. Together they define the division most active traders settle on: the desktop client for automation and analysis, the web terminal for access from anywhere.
What to verify before relying on one
Web platforms differ sharply in how complete they are, and the marketing screenshots do not show the gaps.
- Open an account and place one minimum-size trade through the web terminal specifically, not through the desktop client.
- Check that every order type you use is present — trailing stops and some pending order types are the usual omissions.
- Confirm that modifying and partially closing an existing position works, since these are more often incomplete than opening one.
- Check whether the instrument list matches the desktop platform's, particularly for share CFDs.
- Test it on the browser and machine you would actually use it from, including a mobile browser if that is part of the plan.
Web terminal against mobile app
These solve different problems and are often confused. A mobile app is built for a small screen and touch input, and is best for monitoring positions and reacting to alerts. A web terminal is a full trading interface that happens to run in a browser, and it is best when you have a proper screen but not your own machine.
A trader whose access problem is "I am away from my desk" wants the app. One whose problem is "I cannot install software here" wants the web terminal. Several brokers do one well and the other poorly.
Security considerations
A browser terminal is reached with credentials that work from any machine, which is convenient and is exactly the risk. Two-factor authentication matters more here than on a desktop client tied to one computer, and a shared or public machine is not a place to log into a funded trading account under any circumstances.
Check whether the broker supports app-based two-factor authentication rather than SMS, whether it notifies on new-device logins, and whether sessions can be reviewed and revoked from the client area.
Frequently asked questions
Can I run an expert advisor in a web platform?
Generally no. Automation runs in the desktop client. A trader relying on expert advisors needs the desktop platform regardless of the web terminal's quality.
Is a web platform slower than a desktop client?
For order entry the difference is negligible — latency is dominated by the connection to the broker. Chart rendering and heavy multi-chart layouts are where a browser shows its limits.
Does my layout follow me between computers?
Usually yes. Web terminals store workspace state server-side, which is one of their real advantages over a desktop client that keeps settings locally.
Is a web terminal the same as a mobile app?
No. The app is built for a small touchscreen and suits monitoring; the web terminal is a full interface that needs a proper screen. Brokers often do one well and the other poorly.
